Overall

After listening a few times to the Singapurian National Anthem there was a small party at the club. But the real party started back at the hotel...

Our Bus leaves in 2 hours to Punta Cana. Plane starts in 10 hours and we will be back in Switzerland tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who supported us during this championship. It was a long 3 weeks journey and despite the finish, the team sailed very well. Now everyone is eager to feel the cool swiss weather again.

Singapur vs. World has ended

The last group just crossed the finish line of the last race today. Kids are coming in. I don't trust the tracker results fully, but it looks like it was not so good a day for the team except for damian.
Looks like for Team Singapur, every training session is a mini world championship...

Race 6 and 7

The RC did a better job today. After they sent the kids out, they waited around 2 hours for the first start. Two races with around 5 - 10 knots could be sailed. Alas many of the team had trouble finding the right shifts and pressures in the second race. 

We are now overall 7th nation and one day to go. Let's hope, that they have enough power left to bring home well deserved good end results.

No wind so far

Not much wind today. At least they let us wait ashore, so the kids can sit in the shade.
The RC told us they will make it better today. So we hope...


The race they sailed yesterday was very difficult to sail. The wind shifted a lot and was also very gusty. The team did an ok race. Still they are a bit disappointed. They want more! Sadly Wolf lost too many places on the last beat and could only finish 29th. Luckily it's only his first bad race.
Philipppe did not sail yesterday. He did his race 3 days ago. Sadly not a good one.

Heute Morgen mussten erst die Gruppen Rot und Grün ihre Läufe nachholen. Danach waren 2 weitere Läufe in den neuen Gruppen geplant. An dieser Stelle muss aber doch mal erwähnt werden, dass das Regattakommitee (RC) von Tag zu Tag schlechter zu werden scheint. Dies endete heute in einer Katastrophe.  Zuerst brauchten sie fast 2 Stunden, um die ersten beiden Gruppen überhaupt zu starten. Sie  hatten anscheinend zu wenig Ankerleine… Den Rest erspare ich euch an dieser Stelle doch Fazit des Tages ist: Wind zwischen 7 – 12 Knoten. Zeit auf dem Wasser fast 7 h. Rot und Grün haben ihren 5ten Lauf nachgeholt, sonst nichts.

Aujourd’hui les groupes rouges et verts doivent d’abord rattraper leur 5ième manche. Puis après deux manches en nouvelles couleurs sont prévues. Mais il faut dire que malheureusement le comité de course (RC) devient de jours en jours plus en plus mauvais. Ce qui a mené aujourd’hui en une catastrophe. D’abord ils ont pris presque 2 heures pour faire partir les deux premiers groupes. Apparemment la corde pour l’ancre était trop courte… Je vous sauve du reste qui s’est passé, mais le résultat du jour est : Vent entre 7-12 kn. Temps sur l’eau environs 7 heures. Rouge et vert on rattrapé leur 5ièeme manche, rien de plus.

The day off we never wanted...

Wait, that’s not how the journey started. That’s how the trip ended. Let’s start from the beginning.

Working the guy at the reception i got places for a snorkeling trip to Catalina Island. We had to be ready at 7 in the morning. After some waiting the guy at the reception made a call and after 30 minutes our car finally arrived. Since we where so late with the reservation, we had a car only for us, but mysteriously had to be ready 1 hour earlier than all the other teams making the same trip with the bus. After a halt at a tourist shop we had a bad feeling about this trip. It seemed a bit shady. And when the car stopped in front of a old house on a random street we thought we’re going to be… But then we saw the river and the boat below and where relieved. So far the mood of the team was not the best.

But as soon as the other teams (BEL, MEX, AUS) arrived with the bus and we went on the boat, the mood started to get better. After seeing the beatiful island at the horizon and listening tot he carribian music, we where sold.

The boat stopped close to the shore of Isla Catalina and everyone got their snorkeling equipment. It is not a huge reef, but it was nice nonetheless.

After the snorkeling the boat went tot he leeward side of the island where we ate lunch and enjoyed the beautiful beach of isla catalina.

Some more snorkeling was done and Camillo nearly missed the boat leaving again, because he was soo into fishes…

On the way home the dance animator girls where very fond of the swiss team and i think the kids enjoyed the dancers too… ;)

We had good fun and i think the kids are ready again for tomorrow. Now we are going to the restaurant round up the day.

The team is a bit disapointed that they didn’t make it to the finals. They could have done better and i think they know it. But we should not forget that it was very very close and still one oft the best results switzerland ever made.

It might look that we blame the jury fort the loss. It is surely not the only reason, the team could have sailed better. But watching the videos we recorded oft he races, the jury made wrong decisions. But it is how it is and we are surely not the only country with ill luck. It’s important to look forward tot he fleet race again.

So now tomorrow we have a day off (during the teamrace finals). It is already very late but i’ll try to organize a fun day for them to change their mind after so many racing days.

Swizerland vs. Argentina

Nach einem super schlechten Start von und war es sehr schwierig aufzholen

An der 1. Boye waren SUI ARG SUI SUI ARG ARG SUI ARG.
Also wir waren am gewinnen. Doch an der 2. Boye hat die Jury wie fast immer falsch Entschieden so Maxime ud ich mussten einen 720 machen.  :(
Also jetzt ARG SUI ARG ARG SUI  SUI ARG SUI

Auf dem Vorwind aenderte sich nicht viel, aber an der 3 Boye warteten 2Argentinier und ein '' Gstuerm'' entschtand. Fuer und sehr gut da es nacher war
ARG SUI SUI ARG SUI ARG ARG SUI , so wir gewinnen ganz knapp. ;)

Doch auf dem lezten Amwind war die Jury wider gegen uns und machte mich und Maxime wider einen 720 machen fuer nichts nichts und wieder nichts.
So verloren wir das Rennen und schieden damit aus, sozusagen wegen der Jury.
Leider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bonjour, on était contre les Français pour le 3ème match. On a pris un bon départ, Maxime a bloqué deux Français au départ. On est passé 1,2,3,4 à la bouée au vent, ensuite au vent arrière, Damian a perdu des places, on est passé 1,2,3,8 à la bouée sous le vent. Et Damian a regagné deux des places qu'il  avait perdu pour qu'on finisse 1,2,3,6.

Race2 – Norway vs. Switzerland

Norway lost its match against Turkey and is now facing the swiss team.

If we lose again, we are out. Pressure is on.

Start looks much better. They position themselves well and it looks like they win the start, but its close.

One NOR starts cowered behind and tacks away but Philippe is on him. NOR tacks in front of Wolf, but he can tack away in clear wind. Damian is cowered by two NOR, but one tacks away to control Wolf. 2 minutes after start it looks like NOR has taken the lead. Both NOR do a bad job controlling Wolf and Damian. They slip by. Maxime comes from the left and forces the NOR on the windward side of Damian to bear away right into Damians cower. Good job!

NOR goes around first followed by Philippe. The rest is still fighting at the mark. Damian slips by 3rd followed by NOR, Wolf, NOR, NOR, Maxime. Switzerland in the lead, but it’s very close.

A ship blocks my view... grrr ! Going downwind Damian is still in the lead. The rest is hard to see, but Philippe is not last anymore. I’m not sure but it looks like Damian, NOR, SUI, SUI, NOR, SUI, NOR, NOR.

Arriving at the third mark the group is very close together. Still hard to see, but looks like: Wolf, Philippe, NOR, Maxime, NOR, NOR, Damian, NOR. Switzerland still winning.

Impossible to see the second reach. But still looks good at the mark.

One leg to go! Damian tries to slows down the NOR around him. So far it works. Wolf and Philippe slow down the third NOR and Maxime overtakes him.  Well done!  1,2,3 victory for switzerland! Yay!

This was a good race from the team. NOR did well but they failed at covering and slowing down the swiss good enough. We are still in!

How to Win in Teamrace: The Team with less than 18 points wins. If both have 18 points, the one without first place wins.

Race 1 – Bermudas vs. Switzerland

The swiss have trouble managing the start. Wolf gets pushed all the way out to the left coming late to the start. Each one of the other SUI has a BER on the leeward side. Bermudas wins the start.

Beat one to the windward mark is a series of 1 vs 1 battles between the sailors

Big fight at the windward mark. Damian slips by as first. Followed by BER (2),  Wolf (3), Camillo (4), BER (5), BER (6), Phillippe (7), BER (8).  Switzerland is winning.

Camillo (3) and Wolf (4) switch places on the reach. Else not much happening. So far, so good.

Damian gets an (unjustified) protest. BER has now 2nd and 3rd place. A BER comes from behind on Wolf and overlapps on the leeward side.

Again the battle is on the 3rd mark. Camillo goes around first. Then Wolf, BER, BER, BER, BER, Damian, Philippe. Switzerland is losing, but it’s close.

Very hard to see anything on the second reach. My view angle is bad. (I’m standing in the water :) )

It looks like Wolf is in the lead now. Followed by Camillo and all the BER on the leeward side cowered. Phillippe and Damian coming in last, but close. SUI still losing.

Last beat to finish now. Damian manages to tack underneath a BER just after the Mark. Hard to see but Damian manages to catch up again and is 5 or 6 now. Great job. Few meters to finish now.
Damian wants to protest and lets his sail go. Jury shows green flag. Damian gets overtaken while protesting.

Switzerland loses first race.

The start was bad. They had trouble getting into the race. They sailed well on the two upwind legs, but lost a lot on the downwind. Sadly an error before the finishing line makes the swiss lose the first race and we drop to the loser bracket. This should have been the easiest opponent.

We are ranked 11th in the nation ranking after 4 races! Our sailors did very well! Seeing them sail, i think they can do even better if they keep focused untill the end of the championship.

Today is Teamrace day. The first teams should start right now. We have the 9th start and sail against Bermudas which ranked 38 in the nation ranking. If we win it will be against Turkey or Poland next.

Now i'm off to rent a pedalo! (The racing is inside the lagoon.)

Today we had to get up earlier, because they wanted to start at 10.30. Unfortunately the wind was not ready and a rain cloud made us wait 2 hours for the first start.

But then the wind picked up again and the first race was started. But the windward mark started to drift and after some confusion with the flag (they first hissed N instead of M) they replaced the mark with a RC-boat. But many sailors of the blue group where already over the layline. They let blue sail but abandoned the race for red just when they arrived at the windward mark. Very very sad for our sailors, because Camillo, Wolf and Damian where on 3rd, 5th and aprox.15th place.

Yellow and Blue finished their race and Red and Green had to wait a long time for their race to start. It took them over 30 min. to fix the mark and to start the race again. Red and Green did their races with Yellow and Blue just behind. The thunderstorms shifted the wind hard to the right for the finishing Blue fleet. And soon after they finished the optis where sent in before the rain and lightning.

So we now have Yellow and Blue with 5 races and Red and Green with 4 races. The resting day will be used as racing day to catch up... :(

The day started fantastic. First race had good wind but unofrtunately not until the end. Big rainclouds shifted the wind hard to the left for fleets 3 and 4. But the swiss could capitalize on that and gain.

Unfortunately Damian had an OCS. (He finished around 7th. So he did a good race...)

No races today.

hello tout le monde. Aujourd'hui c'était la première journée de régate. Avec un vent moyen-faible, on a quand même fait les deux manches prévues... Les vagues étaient difficiles à gérer donc la vitesse était LA chose à faire.
 Un premier jour de test, qui nous a mis un peu dans l'ambiance de la régate.

C'est tout, je ne sais pas trop quoi dire sinon...

We just woke up. First race day! :)

First start is at 12.00 (18.00 swiss time). 2 races per day are scheduled. GPS tracking is available. But don't know where to find it online and no time to search with this internet we have here...

Hallo Zusammen
Heute hatten wir Ausruhetag! :)!
Das hies wir konnten bis um 9.30 schlafen und gingen um 10 Uhr an den Strand.
Ich kaufte mir eine Sonnenbrille und fuhr mit Camillo 1h Jet-Ski!!!!!!!!!

Shopping time

Nach einer halben Stunde fahrt mussten wir kurz rein und sie mahnten uns zuviel nach rechts Richtung Hafen zu fahren. Denn sonst könnte uns die Polizei mitnehmen.

 Mit befolgtrm Ratschlag machten wir nun mehr Kurven. Am Schluss war es so, dass es uns beide etwa alle 2min ins Wasser schleuderte!!!

Danach mussten wir an die Vermessung in den Hafen fahren. Die Schweiz war als ersten an der Reihe. Nur bei den Schwertern von Camillo, Philiphe und mir hatten wir einbischen Probleme, aber sie liessen uns passieren und alles war im Grünenbereich.

Am Abend gingen wir in ein schikimiki Retaurand direkt am Meer.!!!
Ich ass ein gutes Stück Fleisch mit Beilage Pommes!
Alberto Casco war so freundlich und lud uns ein. (Danke Alberto)
Nach der Rückkehr ins Hotel mussten wir leider schon schlafen gehen.
Es war ein Ereignisvoller Tag mit vielen lustigen Sachen.

Today is the first day of the official championship. Tomorrow there will be a practice race and the opening ceremony. In two days the first races for the worlds start.

hello. Aujourd'hui, on a pû finir la regate qu'on a pas commencée hier. Au total:3 manches dans un vent de 10 noeuds environ. Il y avait plus de 50 bateaux par groupe, un bon entraînement pour toute l'équipe. On a aussi reçu nos propres mats car Aberto et Carmen sont arrivés aujourd'hui.
Pour changer, on s'est permis d'aller au restaurant suisse dans la "ville", et on a pû remarquer que le soir, c'est chaud bouillant par là...

demain, JOUR DE CONGE!!!!! on va pouvoir dormir et se reposer un peu...

Hallo!

Pendant que le team savour soleil et vent, moi j'ai eu mon jour de lessive.
Während das Team Sonne und Wind geniessen, war für mich Waschtag angesagt.

Yay, fun!

Malheureusement il y avait un petit problème: L'eau était sous courant électrique! Non, ça n'ait pas une blague! Chaque fois que je touche l'eau courante, ca me donne un coup. Et puis fort en plus. Est-ce que c'est comme ça pour motiver ceux qui travaille a l'hotel? Je ne sais pas. Mais après un moment je n'avait plus envie d'être électrocuté, car ça fesait bien mal. Alors j'ai eu une idee...
Nur das gabs ein kleines Problem: Das Wasser war unter Strom. Nein, das ist kein Witz. Jedesmal wenn ich laufendes Wasser berührt habe, hats mir eine gefitzt. Und zwar nicht nur ein bischen. Ist das so um die Hotelmitarbeiter zu motievieren schneller zu arbeiten? Wer weiss. Allerdings hatte ich nach kurzer Zeit keine Lust mehr unter Strom zu stehen, denn es war doch ziemlich schmerzhaft. Gut das ich mir zu helfen wusste.

salut aujourd'hui nous somme allés sur l'eau a 10h30 pour faire la régate du près championnat. Aujourd'hui le vent venait de la terre pour la première fois depuis que nous somme arrivés mais il n'y avait pas beaucoup de vent jusqu'à que le vent revienne comme d'habitude (du large). Puis vu que le vent avais changé des enormes orages sont arrivée au dessus de nous. Des éclers travérsaire le plans d'eau et des bruit supers fort on est rester sur l'eau pendant un moment mais ils ont quand-même annulée mais nous nous somme restés avec les singapourien et les neozelandet pour fair des manches. Nous avons fait une petit manche et la polise est vennut nous dir qui fallait vit rentrer parseque ils y avaient des encors plus gros orages qui allait venir et il pleuvait déja très très fort.

Heute haben wir gegen die Singapuren das erste mal im Teamrace gewonnen. Wir waren alles sehr stoltz.:-)
Leider hatte es nicht so viel Wind wie an den vorherigen Tagen. Aber dafür viel  zu grosse Wellen.
Mir gefällte es sehr hier es ist immer ca. 32c° und das Wasser 30 c°. Wir geniesen alle das schönen Wetter und die heissen Temparaturen. ;)

hello. Comme d'habitude, on s'est levé à 7h50 pour plonger dans la mer aux environs de 8h. Puis nous sommes allés manger à l'hotel. Après, on a été au club pour préparer les bateaux, qu'on a dû déballer hier. Suite aux heures passées à gréer les optis sous un soleil tapant, on est enfin sorti sur l'eau vers 12h. On est rentré à environ 16h, puis on est resté à peu près 1 heure dans la piscine du club car il faisait trop chaud. Ensuite, on est rentré à l'hotel et nous avons pû nous relaxer un moment avant de partir manger au restaurant de la plage...

Hallo Zäme
Heute sind wir um 8 Uhr schwimmen gegangen. Das hies für mich und Camillo um 7.59 aufstehen!
Kein Problem wegen dem Jetlag sind wir schon um 7.15 wach gewesen. Eincremen und hopp ein Sprung ins warme Wasser.
Um Zehn Uhr fuhr uns der Bus dann in den Hafen. Er war bis auf jeden Platz gefüllt also hiess es für das Swiss-Team stehen. :-( Da es aber eine kurze und holprige Fahrt ist war es schnell vorbei.
Heute war unser erster richtiger Trainingstag.

Nach kurzem einwärmen machten wir einpar Race mit Schweden, Basilianer, Peruaner, Neuseeländ und "Ecuadöner".

Go Suisse!

Als wir reingekommen sind bekamen wir unsere richtigen fabrickneuen Regata-Boote und konnten sie einstellen auf unsere Bedürfnisse.

Zum Glück haben wir alle unsere Boote umgedreht denn vorhin hat es bei uns geregnetes.
 
Jetzt haben wir unser tägliches Debriefing mit Videoanalysen.
Bei uns geht es allen gut und wir haben alle zusammen Spass bei den schönen Wassertemperaturen.

What is it? A duck? A Swan? No, a towel! Brought to you by the cleaning lady.

Salut, on est allé à la plage à 8h, le soleil se lève très tôt donc je me suis réveillé à 6h30. A la plage on as traversé le canal jusqu'à la petite île d'enface. Après un saut dans la piscine, on est allé mangé le ptit'déj, toute la nourriture a trop de sucre. On est ensuite allé au club pour prendre nos bateaux, mais la liste de l'IODA qui dit quels bateaux on reçoit n'est pas encore arrivée. Les gens qui nous donnent les bateaux, nous on donnés des autres bateaux qu'on devra redonnez lundi. Il fesait tellement chaud, qu'on est vite allé se baigné dans la mer pour se rafraïchir. On a ensuite gré les bateaux se qui a pris pas mal de temps. On s'est rebaigné puis on a mangé. On est ensuite sorti sur l'eau, où nous avons commencé de sortir du port quand un énorme orage est arrivé sur la ville derrière nous. Nous sommes donc resté dans la sorte de petit ''lac'' juste devant le port, on a fait quelques exersices tous seuls, puis nous avons faits une manche avec les Brésliens, pendant le vent arrière, le vent est complétement tombé et on est rentré. Nous nous sommes ensuite baigné denouveau. Apès on est rentré à l'hôtel, le soir on a mangé au restaurant de l'hôtel. Les desserts sont aussi bourrés de sucre comme le matin.
Apès le soupé, je suis allé à la récéption pour écrire sur le blog....

Vendredi 6.7

salut aujourd'hui on s'est levé à 7h mais on devait se lever à 8h après on est allé prendre le petit déjeuner.
A 9h on est allé à la piscine jusqu'à 11h15 puis nous sommes parti au club de voile (le club est super joli)
Au club nous voulions prendre les bateaux mais ils n'étaient pas encore arrivés alors nous nous sommes baignés tout la journée. Il fait super chaud et il a pas encore plu,l'eau est très très chaude environ 30 degrés.
L'eau est vraiment belle elle est bleu turquoise.
Il y a du vent environ 15noeux.
Après nous sommes allés à la plage de l'hôtel et nous avons faits du pedalo entre les superbes îles.
c'étais super cool.

 Nach kurzer Komplikation beim Zoll (Teamleader sah wohl gefährlich aus) sind wir in den Flieger gestiegen und abgeflogen. Zoll hatte später noch angerufen, um sich zu entschuldigen.
Après une petit complication a la duane (Teamleader avec allure dangereuse?) on est bien parti de Zurich. Mais sympa des douaniers de téléphoner pour s'excuser.


Nach ca 9h Flug Landung in Punta Cana.
Après 9 heures de vol on arrive a Punta Cana.

Danach 3 1/2 Stunden mit dem Bus bis nach Boca Chica. Um 4:30 Uhr schweizer Zeit sind wir hundemüde im Hotel angekommen.
Encore 3 1/2 heures de Bus on est arrivé a Boca Chica. A 4:30 heures Suisse on est tombé super fatigue au lit.


Das Hotel ist eine mit hohen Mauern und Stacheldraht geschlossene Anlage. Wir fühlen uns sicher...
L'hôtel est clôturé avec des grand mur et du fil de fèr. On se sent en sécurité.

Danach fahrt mit Bus zum Segelclub. Eindrückliche Gegensätze von Armut (Häuser aus Blech und Karton) und exklusivem Club Nautico.
Après on a pris le bus direction club nautique. Contraste impressionant de pauvreté (maison en plaque de métal) et club nautique exclusif.

Charterboote werden am Samstag gefasst. Geniessen momentan noch einen gemütlichen Tag im Club.
On prends les bateaux charter Samedi. Aujourd'hui on savour la beauté du club et la plage.
